دورة كأس الخليج العربي ، أغلى الدورات و أهمها لأبناء الخليج من بين البطولات الغير معترف بها من قبل الفيفا . تحضا الدورة باهتمام كبير من قبل دول الخليج لما لها من دور كبير في تطوير المستويات الفنية للمنتخبات الخليجية و كذلك في تطوير المنشآت الرياضية و تنمية قدرات الاتحادات الخليجية على استضافة و تنظيم البطولات و المحافل الرياضية .
و مع اقتراب النسخة ال20 من دورة كأس الخليج العربي و المزمع إقامتها في اليمن السعيد ، تتصاعد وتيرة الخوف و القلق من إمكانية إقامة الدورة في مكانها المحدد باليمن لما تشهده اليمن من تقلبات و اضطرابات أمنية بين الفينة والأخرى بسبب الحراك الجنوبي وكذلك التصادمات بين الحكومة و جماعة الحوثيين .

ولذلك اقترح ممثلو الدول المشاركة فكرة نقل الدورة إلى المنامة بدل من صنعاء إلا أن اليمن تشدد على ضرورة إقامة الدورة ال20 في اليمن و تستبعد فكرة نقلها إلى المنامة .
استضافة صنعاء للنسخ ال20 من الدورة في الوقت الحالي هو أمر ضروري بالنسبة لها لتحقيق أهداف رياضية و أخرى سياسة مختلفة عن الأهداف الرئيسية للدورة . لذلك فهي تصر على استضافتها في جنوب اليمن حيث الحراك الجنوبي الذي يرغب بالانفصال عن الشمال . فما الأمر الذي يدفع بصنعاء إلى الإصرار على استضافة الدورة ؟ وما الهدف من إقامتها في أبين وعدن ؟

و حقيقة الأمر بأن استضافة صنعاء للدورة مرتبط بحدوث الانقسام في اليمن . فنجاح اليمن في استضافة كأس الخليج في أبين وعدن من شأنه أن يظهر صورة ايجابية عن وحدة اليمن ، و كذلك من شأنه أن يبدد فكرة الجنوبيين بالانفصال عن الشمال و هو الأمر الذي ترغب الحكومة اليمنية في تحقيقه . ومن هنا نجد الحكومة اليمنية تصر على استضافة الدورة بالرغم من كثر المخاطر المحتملة من إقامة الدورة في أبين وعدن .

ويضل هدف اليمن هذا أمر غير واضح للمتابعين لكونه يأتي خلف الأهداف الرياضية الأساسية للدورة . و علينا أن نؤيد فكرة إقامة الدورة في اليمن بدلا من أن نطالب بنقلها إلى البحرين ، لأن بقاء اليمن دول واحدة أمر من المفترض أن يكون مهما لنا كعرب .
